"God has a reason for allowing things to happen. We may not understand his wisdom, but we simply have to trust in his will."
I know this is true. Everything we experience is for a purpose--even those things we don't quite understand.

Thursday Thankfuls
Today, I'm thankful for my baby. He brings me so much joy.
I have no idea what I'd do without him!

Thursday Thankfuls
I'm trying to make an honest effort to have some me time every day. I think it's good for my soul (and my mental health). I've decided a good way to spend part of my alone time is writing. So, more regular blog posts to come (I hope!).
Each Thurdsay, I'm going to do a post titled "Thursday Thankfuls". This post will help me reflect and focus on the good in my life. After I list what I'm thankful for, I will pose a couple of questions for readers to reflect on. Feel free to leave your responses in the comments section of the blog if you so wish.
This Thursday morning, I am thankful for the following:
-A wonderful family. I have been amazed at how supportive and loving my immediate and extended family has been since Mitch was born. I am extremely lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people.
-The power of prayer. Since we learned about Mitch's heart condition, I've been amazed at the many prayers directed our way. Much thanks and gratitude!
-The blessing of health insurance. This past week, I talked the the cardiology social worker at Primary Children's hospital to get a rough estimate of how much Mitch's surgery will cost. After seeing the numbers, I'm more thankful than ever to have great medical coverage.
--------------------------------------------------------------
What are you thankful for in your life?
What things have amazed you lately?
I found out the other day that the nuns at the local Catholic church have Mitch's name on their prayer roll. They pray for him daily. They told a friend they won't take his name off until they've received word that he's completely healthy. I've never met these people or attended their church, yet they take time to pray for my son each day. How incredible!

I Told You He Was Spoiled
Mitch came home today with a five dollar bill in his pocket. Last time it was a dollar. I guess he's getting paid for being cute.
I told you Grandma spoiled him!

My mother-in-law, Sherma, is watching Mitch this week while my mom heals from surgery. Needless to say, Mitch is receiving some star treatment.
Tess and Kylee singing Mitch to sleep.
Shay watching over Mitch while he naps.
Thanks Sherma for taking such good care of my baby! I know Mitch is enjoying every second.

Time is Precious
Today someone told me, "Just enjoy the time you have. Who cares if the dishes don't get done or the house is a mess. Time is precious, so spend it making memories with family."
I'm not a very good blogger, and I wish I were better. But, when I have free time, I would rather spend it with my husband and baby than blogging. So sorry to the followers who are sick of the long gaps in between posts. I've resolved not to care anymore because time is precious, and I'm spending my time making memories with my family.

Oh Boy!

(Please ignore the crappy quality of this photo.)
During tummy time, Mitch decided his arm tasted really yummy. I didn't see anything wrong with him sucking on it at the time, so I let him be. When I rolled him over after tummy time, I noticed a huge red mark. My silly baby gave himself a hickey. Oops!

The Baby Listened
I kept telling the baby this week that he couldn't make his arrival until after my work baby shower was over. Well he listened. My water broke tonight 45 minutes after the shower ended. Good boy Mitchie!
Baby should be making his appearance shortly. Wish me luck!

Let Us Remember
My boss sent me an email titled "Memorial Day" today. I opened the attachment and was rather surprised by the words I read.
"Monday is Memorial Day, one of our most important national holidays.
It is the time every year to put aside our differences and join together as one nation in remembrance of so many brave and idealistic Americans who gave their lives so freedom might endure for our people, and for people elsewhere in the world.
For many Americans, Memorial Day means the unofficial start of the summer season. But I hope for most of us the original meaning and purpose of this day will not be lost. It surely will not be lost on the surviving veterans who fought America's wars, and who, year after year, faithfully uphold the traditions which honor their fallen comrades.
Nor will it be lost on the families and friends who will travel to military cemeteries across our nation and overseas to decorate with flowers and flags the graves of loved ones who gave all for this country.
And for those who still suffer the physical and emotional wounds of war in veterans hospitals or the private torment of memory, the meaning of this day can never be forgotten.
It has become too easy for those of us who have been protected from war and never seen its horrors up close to lose sight of the debt we owe to those who stepped forward in our place to take the risks and make the sacrifices that ensured a secure nation.
This Memorial Day's ceremonies will honor America's war dead.
But the most important tribute should take place in the heart of every American, to give thanks for our liberty and to remember the price paid, in human lives, to keep it."
-Jessica Harris
"I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the Alter of Freedom."
-Abraham Lincoln
I judge Memorial Day rather harshly because of the experiences I have had growing up. However, the words contained in the email made me realize that I've lost sight of the meaning behind Memorial Day. It really has nothing to do with me but those who have sacrificed their lives for freedom.
So, as we enjoy this long weekend, I hope we all take a few minutes to thank our Father for the country we live in and the freedoms we have. And, let us all remember the human price paid to keep it.

Time Warp
I really can't believe it's the end of April! I guess it's time to update the good ol' blog, since it's been over a month!
We're slowly getting settled into our new house. We've been at a stand still for a few weeks because we're still waiting for our repairs to be finished. It's been a bit of a battle to get the contractor to fix the issues we found in our final walk-through (and the warranty issues we've discovered since). Last week we met with the representative of the seller to discuss why our repairs have not been addressed. Yesterday, the sellers and the contractor had a meeting, so we're waiting to hear the outcome.
In the meantime, we've kept busy with other house projects. We've added shelving and dividers to our laundry room area, redone some lighting, and started/planned a million other small projects.
We've also been busy planning for baby. I finally picked colors for the nursery (we're going neutral) and picked out the crib, nursery furniture and bedding. I've decided on the decorations I want to include--more projects to fill the time over the next 11 weeks!
We're getting more and more excited to be parents. We can't wait for our little babe to be here. Let's hope the next 11 weeks slow down a bit though, so we can get everything done that we need to before he comes.
Well that's it for now. I hope this post finds you all happy and healthy!

P.S.
I'm not ignoring your requests for baby pictures. I had a bright idea during the move to pack them so they wouldn't get lost. Now I can't find them.
As soon as they surface, I promise I will post some.
